10 Reasons Why I Thrift (And You Should Too)

Listed with the most important at the top, here are 10 reasons why I thrift (and you should to)!

1. Your purchases usually go towards funding charities or good causes.

After a thrifting spree, you can be relieved that your money went towards a good cause.

2. Thrifting is the most basic and beneficial form of recylicing.

Instead of throwing clothes away, you're giving them a second chance at life. Recycling at it's purest form!

3. You are not directly feeding into the retail industry by increasing the demand for more.

Since thrifted clothes are pre-loved, you're helping save a lot of new material, along with everything else that goes into production.

4. It's fun.

I love shopping no matter the place. Thrifting, however, provides a quite diferent experience from the ordinary. Once you walk into a Savers, Goodwill, or Salvation Army, you're on a mission. You'll have to do some digging to find that perfect piece; it's like a scavenger hunt.

5. You can find something that no one else has.

Thrift stores offer such a wide variety of clothing and update their inventory weekly. Avoid that awkward situation where you show up to a party wearing the same exact outfit as that other girl.

6. Thrifted clothes are generally higher quality simply for the fact that they are still there.

I mean, if those embroidered bell bottoms have endured being worn countless times and STILL have resale value, they've proved themselves worthy of my whole $6. They've been through a lot, so show 'em some love!

7. You can rediscover old trends and bring them back!

One rack may contain clothes from three or four or more decades ago. Vintage jewelry or a fun-frilled jacket from the '80s can be paired with styles from today.

8. Since the clothes have already been washed, you can go home knowing they'll fit the same way they did when you first tried them on in the fitting room.

Most of the clothing has already been broken in for you!

9. You can experiment with your style.

Thrifting gives you the chance to stray away from your comfort zone and go for that bold, daring piece you've been secretly eye-balling. If you only wear it once, at least you won't feel guilty since it was only $3.

10. You can create your own style.

At the thrift store, there aren't really any mannequins to pressure you into dressing based on "what's in" or what everybody else is wearing. With all the diversity the thrift shop offers, you can start from scratch!
